“The guilt is always undoubted” is inspired by Franz Kafka’s »In der Strafkolonie« (“In the Penal Colony”, released 1919). An explorer is shown the legal system of a penal colony. It consists of torturing each defendant for hours and then killing him after determining the verdict, which cannot be doubted. The sentence is written in a meticulous sequence in the body of the condemned by means of a needle-studded apparatus. The horrified traveler is suddenly caught up in a hierarchical power struggle and goes from being an observer to being a judge of this form of execution. He speaks out against the inhumane procedure — and thus causes its main advocate to die himself by this apparatus.
